Welcome to NIOA Santa Gertrudis

We are a family-owned stud on the fertile soil of Queensland’s Southern Downs, committed to breeding cattle for consistency, adaptability, and temperament. This picturesque region is renowned as the birthplace of the Santa Gertrudis breed in Australia when 12 bulls from the world-famous King Ranch, USA were offered for sale in 1952.

At NIOA Santa Gertrudis, we are proud of that tradition. Our stud began with a drive to continue the breed’s historical link with the district and a deep passion to produce champion “cherry reds”. We do this by sourcing, breeding and producing the best animals with a focus on high-performance polled cattle that retain power, fertility and soundness. Since our inception, we have meticulously purchased elite cattle with world-class bloodlines from a wide selection of breeders.

Our motto is “breeding champions” and this strategy has yielded multiple successes on the regional and metropolitan show ring circuit. Our vision is to continually improve the quality of the herd, maintaining the attributes the Santa Gertrudis is famous for.
