The first sons of NIOA’s record-breaking resident sires Yarrawonga Spartacus S316 (P) and Riverina Roland Sanchez R88 (PP) (ET) will be on display this week at one of Australia’s biggest agricultural expos.
Spartacus ($250,000) and Roland Sanchez ($160,000) toppled Australian santa gertrudis breed records in 2022 when they were purchased within months of one another by the Allora-based NIOA Pastoral Co.
Now their progeny are expected to turn heads among breeders and spectators at Primex 2025 which begins today (Eds: Thursday, May 15) at Casino in Northern New South Wales.
The Yarrawonga Cattle Co-bred Spartacus is the grandson of 2014 Brisbane Ekka Grand Champion Yarrawonga Corvette H730 (P), while Roland Sanchez - bred by Rob and Lorraine Sinnamon at “Mayfield”, Kyogle - is the first Australian son of former US sale topper Red Doc Never Better.
NIOA’s annual sale partner RL Pastoral Co.’s Rob Sinnamon, who owns a 1/8 share in Yarrawonga Spartacus, said the three-day agricultural expo was an opportunity to showcase the results of the two studs’ breeding programs as well as offering a sample of what’s to come at their spring sale.
“These young bulls carry the phenotype of their champion bloodlines and early signs suggest that they are living up to the hype,” he said.
“It’s also a great opportunity to talk to the team about what’s on offer as we prepare 110 bulls for the NIOA RL Pastoral Sale on at Talgai Homestead on September 4.”
NIOA Santa Gertrudis general manager Shannon Gardner said the hand-picked group of three bulls and two heifers at Primex 2025 reflected the stud’s focus on sourcing, breeding and producing high-performance cattle.
“This is another milestone since we introduced the Yarrawonga and Riverina bloodlines into our program,” he said.
“We’re proud to present the next generation of our herd and give breeders a first-hand look at what they can expect from our sale.”
Now in its 41st year, Primex is one of Australia’s biggest farming field days with more than 430 exhibitors.
Attendees can visit the NIOA RL Pastoral stand at Site B16 opposite the livestock pavilion.
