The first sons of the current and former Santa Gertrudis Australian breed record-priced bulls are among the standout offerings in the NIOA RL Pastoral Sale catalogue which is out this week.
NIOA Santa Gertrudis and Riverina Santa Gertrudis will partner up for their fourth annual sale at Talgai Homestead, Allora, on Thursday, September 4.
The 2025 catalogue boasts 78 bulls – 72 classified (62 poll, including 33 homozygous poll), semen packages from three of the most exciting sires in the Santa Gertrudis breed, and 10 poll stud classified heifers.
Among the highlights are the first sale sons of the current record-holder Yarrawonga Spartacus S316 (P), who set a new Australian benchmark in 2022 at $250,000. Joining them are the progeny of Riverina Roland Sanchez R88 (PP), the previous national sale topper ($160,000) also from the 2022 spring bull sale season.
NIOA Santa Gertrudis general manager Shannon Gardner said the stud’s bull selection was looking exceptional six weeks out from sale day.
“This is the best line of bulls we’ve had by far – for breed character, the tropical coat, temperament – streets ahead,” he said.
“We’ve had a great season – our bulls are prepared on oats – and with two new sires in our herd in Yarrawonga Spartacus and Riverina Roland Sanchez... they’ve put a lot more quality into our sale bulls this year and we’re excited to be able to offer their first sons.”
Sale manager and Riverina stud principal Rob Sinnamon doubled down on those comments.
“This is such an even line of bulls with two of the most industry-relevant bulls of the current day as sires... they are so even, the strength and depth of the quality is extraordinary,” he said.
With nine industry leading sires showcasing a unique cross-section of bloodlines, Mr Sinnamon said this year’s sale offered something for everyone.
“Phenotypically we believe these cattle are the ‘right kind’, offering genetic diversity and value for money,” he said.
“Whether you’re a seedstock producer or commercial cattleman we believe we have animals that will suit.”
Performance data highlights in the 2025 NIOA RL Pastoral Sale catalogue include:
• All lots in the sale are at least bred average for a trait.
• 46 lots are in the top 10 per cent for at least one trait.
