NIOA Santa Gertrudis has bolstered its breeding program with the acquisition of three outstanding new sires.
The Allora-based stud paid the top money of $40,000 for Lot 5, Jamar Valentino V06 (P), at the Jamar Santa Gertrudis sale at Comet in Central Queensland.
The 25-month-old first son of Cardona Vino V23 (P) out of Jamar Joelene N33 (P), was described in the sale catalogue as having “presence with great constitution” and the “look at me factor”.
With a DLG of 1.14, 140 EMA, 5.7% IMF and scrotal circumference of 37cm, the 925kg bull certainly caught the eye of NIOA stud General Manager Shannon Gardner.
“We’re very happy – I thought he would go for a lot more,” Mr Gardner said. “He’s got good outcross genetics from a lot of good studs.
“We will put him to work straight away – he will complement our Spartacus and Sanchez heifers and take those bloodlines to the next level.”
Valentino is the third new sire this spring bull sale season to be added to the NIOA breeding program.
NIOA paid $22,000 for Watasanta Visionary 3210 (PP), a dark-coated son of Watasanta Outback Jack 2574 (P), at the Tamworth stud’s sale in August before backing up at the Brisbane Valley Santa Gertrudis event at Toogoolawah Showgrounds in September securing Lot 1 Coulsonview Unreal (P), the first bull calf from Coulsonview 11 and sired by Bullamakinka N216 (P), for $11,000.
Mr Gardner said the trio were selected for their superior genetics, proven performance and alignment with NIOA’s breeding objectives.
“These bulls represent an exciting next step for our program,” he said. “Each one brings breed traits that will complement our existing herd and ensure we continue to deliver cattle with the characteristics our clients are seeking.”
NIOA recently held its most successful sale in years with a full clearance of 34 Classified S bulls, including the first release sons of Yarrawonga Spartacus S316 (P) and $160,000 Riverina Roland Sanchez R88 (PP), for an average of $13,264.
NIOA genetics are also continuing to make an impact across other sales.
NIOA Quartermaster Q34 (P) sired five lots in Benelkay Santa Gertrudis’ sale in August, three sons of NIOA Payday P21 (ET) (P) featured in the Canowindra Santa Gertrudis offering while three NIOA-bred bulls were among 40 outstanding sires represented in Eidsvold Station’s huge September 18 catalogue.
